Controversial movie director, Socrates Sarfo, has stated that the newly crowned king of Northern music, Fancy Gadam deserved to win the 'Artiste of the year' at the just ended Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA).
According to the the Director of Creative Arts, responsible for Programmes & Projects at the Commission for National Culture, the 'Total Cheat' hitmaker was robbed of the category since he was the only artiste in the category who made the cut per the definition of the category.
Speaking to TV Africa, Mr. Safo added that eventual winner, Ebony Reigns did not deserve to win the award as she didn't do half of what Fancy Gadam did in the year under review.
“I think that even somebody like Fancy Gadam was robbed of one key category, which is the Artist of the Year… if you look at the definition, Fancy Gadam stands poles apart from all the nominees there”, he opined.
“Can you pinpoint any of the nominees there including the ultimate winner, Ebony, who did half of what he [Fancy Gadam] did?”, quizzed.
That notwithstanding, he went on to congratulate Charter House for a splendid concept, adding that it wasn’t rare for any music award show to not receive a backlash.
“I think the VGMA is a good concept and it has its own challenges like any award scheme the world over; so its normal when in Ghana, we have our VGMAs and people are not happy, but in the end, we are all winners.
