The Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has cast his vote in the ongoing referendum for the creation of six new regions.

Vice President Bawumia cast his ballot at the Kperiga Presby JHS 'A' Polling Station at Walewale in the proposed North East Region, at about 9:20am and he was the 70th person to vote.

Speaking to the media after voting, the Dr Bawumia urged voters in all six proposed regions to turn out in their numbers to exercise their democratic right to vote.

Vice President Bawumia was confident of a smooth, peaceful vote which would affirm the wishes of the people on the proposal to create new regions.

A former Northern Regional Minister, Mr. Abdallah Abubakar who was the 2016 National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for the Walewale Constituency early on joined a queue to cast his vote at the Fongni polling station.

A total of 505,477 eligible voters are expected to cast their votes at 1101 polling stations in the 12 districts in the proposed North  East and Savannah Regions.
