On Sunday, October 22, 2023, the Dr. Kwame Kyei Sports Complex in Abrankese witnessed a rather somber atmosphere as aggrieved Kotoko fans expressed their frustration by vandalizing the stadium seats. This unexpected reaction followed a dramatic 2-2 draw between Nations FC and Asante Kotoko.
The match had taken fans on a rollercoaster of emotions, with Nations FC managing to secure a point by scoring in the dying moments of the game. The second half had been particularly exhilarating as Nations FC orchestrated a remarkable comeback.
The joy of Asante Kotoko fans was short-lived as, just minutes after Michael Kyei Dwamena's brilliant goal in the 94th minute, referee Latif Adaari awarded a second penalty in the game, this time in favor of the home side. This decision came after a series of handballs in the box.
Amidou Diarra, who had successfully converted the first penalty, displayed composure and skill by scoring once more when it mattered most, ultimately securing a valuable point for his team. However, the unexpected draw appeared to have left some Kotoko fans deeply disappointed, leading to the unfortunate act of stadium vandalism.
