The Paramount Chief of Akwamu Traditional Area in the Eastern Region, Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III, has indicated Ghanaians should not limit the Volta Lake to only fishing and irrigation purposes.

According to him, the Adomi Bridge in Atimpoku which is sighted on the Volta Lake could be made a tourism centre to attract visitors from all over the world.

Speaking at the launch of "Adomi International River Festival 2019" held at the Royal Senchi Hotel and Resort in Atimpoku, the Captial of Asuogyaman District, Odeneho called on the indigenes to collaborate with the assembly to promote tourism in the area so that it can create jobs and improve revenue generation for national development.

The Adomi International River Festival is a maiden water sports tourism event being organized by Apprise Music and Media in partnership with the Asuogyaman District Assembly in Atimpoku.

The event will enable them to sell the district and its tourism potential to the world and Ghanaians at large.

Samuel Kwame Agyekum the District Chief Executive for Asuogyaman District in his speech, said this year's Festival will start from the 7th to 10th August 2019, to promote the Volta Lake as an investment opportunity for potential investors in areas such as fish farming, vegetable farming, hospitality industry, waterfront resorts, and water sports among others.

He noted that that the International River Festival seeks to promote water sports tourism in the country and it will include regatta, water biking, jet skiing, swimming and diving competitions.

The DCE added that there will also be indigenous food and art fair, music, drama, traditional dance, display of culture from the chiefs and people of Akwamu and candlelight procession to bring excitement to both the locals and visitors.

Mr. Paul Asare Ansah, former Director-General for Ghana Ports and Harbour Authority, the guest of honor on his side, said that some forward-thinking people who had the concept of tourism had made it possible for the launch happen.

He suggested to the organizers that cable cars can also be part of the festival in the future, where tourists can sightsee, adding that the port being created in Asuogyaman which will also enhance tourism.
