The sod has been cut for the construction of new office complex for the Volta Regional branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The first phase of the GH¢1.6 million complex, will among other facilities, have six offices, a control room, an executive office, 100 capacity conference room, and other auxiliary facilities.

At a sod-cutting ceremony for the project last Sunday, the National Chairman of the party, Mr Freddie Blay, commended the Regional Chairman and his team for the initiative to provide the party with the edifice.

He said the effort would provide the needed footing for administrative functions of the party in the region and also provide a strong foundation for the party’s strategies at consolidating the NPP’s presence in the various regions.

‘The idea of a headquarters is of course more than just a home. It serves as an administrative hub that enables us to coordinate and build on our networks in the regions. A permanent headquarters provides us with an important base to strengthen the party’s organisational efforts in the regions,’ he added.

Ideas

Mr Blay said party politics was a critical and vital element of effective democratic governance.

He said party politics was used to contest ideas in the people’s interest.

He entreated party supporters to exhibit selflessness to deliver to the expectation of the people and desist from the culture of enriching oneself, which is a recipe for disaster, and remember to put Ghana first.

“Remember to work in the spirit of commitment of service to the region and the nation as a whole,” he said.

Regional chairman

The Volta Regional Chairman of the NPP, Mr Makafui Woanyah, stated that the party’s operations on rented premises since 1992 was no longer meeting the needs of the party’s teeming supporters.

That, he explained, influenced the decision to put up a befitting edifice for the party in the region.

He said the complex, estimated at GH¢1.6 million and would include IT and conference facilities, was expected to be built and operationalised by the close of the year.
