Suspected kidnapper Samuel Udeotuk, has kept mute in court when he was asked about the the allegation that a police officer had aided in his escape from the police cells.

Mr Udeotuk is now standing trial for the escape and that an officer of the  Criminal Investigations Department (CID)had aided him.

However, appearing before the Takoradi Magistrate Court in the Western Region on Monday February 18 2019, he refused to pass comment on the issue but asked to grant him more time to produce his witness he named as Kwesi.

When he appeared before the court on February 11, he told the court that his successful escape from the police cells was by the help of a CID and added that he would produce a witness by the name Kwesi on his next appearance which he has failed.

He added that the said Kwesi brought him a hacksaw blade and oil to cut open the iron rod protecting the small window that provides ventilation to escape from the cell.

The court then gave the suspect one week (which ended yesterday) to produce the said Kwesi in court to testify, but failed to produce the witness in court yesterday.

He, however, pleaded with the court to give him more time to produce his witness.

The Head of Operations at the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI), Lord Nyartwi, told the court that Samuel Udoetuk Wills led some personnel of the Police and BNI to Kansaworodo in the metropolis to look for his witness Kwesi, but could not show the personnel exactly where the said Kwesi lived.

The court, presided over by Mr. Michael Ampadu, gave the suspect additional two weeks to go with the personnel of the BNI and police and show them exactly where the Kwesi is so he could be put before the court at the next sitting.

The case was adjourned to March 4, 2019.

It would be recalled that immediately after the suspected Nigerian kidnapper was recaptured after escaping from police cells, he mentioned that he worked with one John who was with the victims in Kasoa in the Central Region.

The police escorted him to Kasoa to help locate the said John and the victims.

According to the police, when they got to Kasoa, they combed the whole area but Samuel Udoetuk Wills could not lead them to the victims.

The Magistrate, Mr Michael Ampadu, told the parents of the victims that even though finding the missing girls was his topmost priority, the court had to first deal with the case of escaping from cells before going to the main case.

He disclosed that the case of kidnapping was not before the court because the investigators had not finished with their job and called on the parents not to mount pressure on the police and the court.

Alexander Kojo Koranchie, father of one of the victims, Priscilla Koranchie, could not hold back his tears after the suspect purportedly failed to say anything about his escape from cells with the assistance of a CID officer.

“I don’t know why he did not say anything on that, but I know the police are investigating, and at the appropriate time they will come to speak on that matter,” he said.
