The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has confiscated a mobile phone belonging to an invigilator, identified as Bright Amoah, at the Armed Forces Senior High Technical School in Accra over suspicions of exam malpractice.

The phone was seized on Monday, August 25, during a WAEC monitoring exercise at the school’s examination centre at Burma Camp, while candidates were sitting for their Social Studies paper, the first major subject in the ongoing WASSCE.

According to WAEC officials, the phone was found in Mr. Amoah’s possession and allegedly contained already-solved questions, including content from the Oral English and Picture Making papers both of which had already been administered.

While the presence of the material does not constitute direct evidence of current leakage, WAEC considers it a serious breach of exam protocols and has launched further investigations into the matter.

The Examination Centre Supervisor has been directed to submit a detailed report explaining how an invigilator came to possess a mobile phone inside the examination hall — a clear violation of WAEC’s code of conduct for exam personnel.

WAEC has reiterated its commitment to upholding the integrity of the examination process and has warned all supervisors and invigilators to adhere strictly to the rules governing the conduct of the WASSCE.
