The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced that results for the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for private candidates will be released by the close of today, Friday, September 5, 2025.
Speaking at a press briefing, WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, John Kapi, confirmed the release timeline and encouraged candidates to check their results later in the day.
“The results of BECE for private candidates will be released by the close of today, September 5, 2025,” he said.
The examination, which was held from Wednesday, June 11 to Wednesday, June 18, 2025, saw a total of 1,661 private candidates participate, comprising 858 males and 803 females. This marks a 19.49% increase in private candidature compared to the previous year.
Meanwhile, the school-based version of the BECE recorded 603,328 candidates from 20,395 schools, representing a 5.99% rise in entries. The gender breakdown included 297,250 males and 306,078 females.
WAEC earlier released the provisional results for BECE School Candidates on August 23, 2025. The council also noted that candidates who breached examination regulations were sanctioned appropriately, in line with recommendations from its investigative committee.
