Ghana's 2022 World Cup opponents the Walia Ibex of Ethiopia defeated Uganda 2-1 in an International friendly game on Sunday at the Bahir Dar International Stadium.

The Ethiopians managed a 2-1 win over the Cranes of Uganda in an exciting game on Sunday.

Highly rated striker Abubeker Nassir scored the first goal of the game in the 11th minute after he was set up by veteran Shimelis Bekele.

Abubeker was the top goal scorer of the just ended Ethiopian Premier League where he notched 29 goals in 23 games and has continued with his good form at the national team level.

Ethiopia scored the second goal nine minutes after the break through midfielder Abel Yalew from the edge of the penalty box.

The Cranes of Uganda responded as they scored what proved to be the consolation goal two minutes after Ethiopia's second goal with striker Yunus Junior Ssentanmu reducing the deficit.

Ethiopia rested nine players in this game after they were held to a scoreless stalemate by Sierra Leone four days ago at the same venue in another friendly.

They take on the Black Stars at the Cape Coast stadium in the opening fixture of the World Cup qualifications on Friday 3 September 2021.

The Walia Ibex will then host Zimbabwe at the Bahir Dar International Stadium in their game three days later.
