General Secretary of the Ghana Wheelchair Basketball Federation( GWBF ), Wilson Agbesi Yao still feels that his federation remains a top priority of the Sports Minister despite the seeming concentration and attention on football.

Reacting to news of the $25million budget of the Black Stars towards their preparations for the 2022 Afcon and World Cup qualifiers which has taken the sports media space after the President of the Republic H.E Nana Akuffo Addo held a break fast meeting with some state institutions and cooperate Ghana in raising funds for the Black Stars ahead of the two tournaments next year .

Wilson Agbesi Yao the secretary general of the Ghana Wheelchair Basketball Federation( GWBF ) in an interview with our reporter, Akakpo Agodji, he revealed that the GWBF is not worried about the step taken by the Minister in raising funds outside the Ministry's budget for the Black Stars .

The outspoken secretary General explains that what he understands from the Minister's action is that , he has noticed that the Black Stars all the time take the major part of the Ministry's budget which always end up affecting funding for other less funded sports.

In finding a way for the Black Stars outside the Ministry's budget to him he can't see what is really wrong with that but rather it should be a good news for the lesser funded sports that hopefully the usual no money syndrome will not be there again as no excuses will be given that the Black Stars have taken all from the Ministry's coffers .

He went ahead to say he is of the strongest believe that the GWBF and para sports in general still remain a top priority to the Hon Minister and to him it is too early for any body or interest group to start agitating that they will not be treated well by the Sports Minister due to the Black Stars issue.

When asked what is the status of the GWBF long-standing debt with the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation ( IWBF ) which they have petitioned the Minister during his vetting and this is what he said ,

"I know you will surely ask this question , by the way I can assure you that pretty soon the Minister will do exactly what he said during the vetting that he will do well by making sure the debt is cleared and we are waiting patiently for that , we are aware he is working on it and also the National Paralympic Committee is as well following on the issue and all indications shows pretty soon we will be out of this debt which has really affected most of our activities with the IWBF over the years , a few days ago the President of the NPC Mr Samson Deen as well as the Secretary General Mr Peter Adjei called to really assure us that they are not sleeping on the follow up on the debt settlement by the Minister but they are working hard and we should be rest assured that the Minister has not forgotten about us but working on it ."

Commenting further on the issue , the Secretary General is urging all para athletes to remain calm and focus and concentrate on their training and have the confidence that the NPC will work hand in hand with the Ministry and the NSA in making sure all athletes who qualify for Tokyo 2020 will have a very successful tournament and be accorded with all that need to be given out to them for participating in the event .

He concluded by wishing the Minister well once again in his tenure of office and urged him to implement all his good plans and policies for para sports in the country.
