Asante Kotoko arrived in Abidjan on Friday at about 14 hours GMT but contrary to threats of harm and intimidation by some officials and fans of San Pedro Fc, the team has been treated well.
Aside waiting at the airport for a while, everything since the teams arrival in the Ivorian capital has been smooth sailing.
Kotoko defeated San Pedro Fc at the Baba Yara Sports stadium by a solitary Naby Keita goal but the Ivorians accused Kotoko of harassment and forcing the South African referee Eugene Nkosinathi Mdlule of postponing the first leg to the next day after a heavy downpour.
Aggrieved officials of San Pedro fc attacked the referee and Kotoko goal scorer Naby Keita after he scored the only goal of the game.
Officials and some supporters of San Pedro promised fire and brimstone when Kotoko return to Ivory Coast but so far nothing untoward has been heard.
“I can tell you that since we arrived (on Thursday) there is nothing or no signs in the atmosphere that indicate that they (FC San Pedro) are plotting against us or rise against us”, Nana Coker stated, speaking to Fox FM.
He is however unable to determine whether there will be any harassment after and so warns they are being vigilant.
“But as we know every human being and how they approach issues, so however it is, once they’ve said certain things to us it means we have to beware”, he cautioned.
According to Nana Coker, the Ivorian embassy has assured them of enough security for Kotoko before, during and after the match on Sunday, but advised them to comport themselves throughout.
