Kumasi Asante Kotoko surrendered top spot to bitter rivals Accra Hearts of Oak after their lackluster 1-1 drawn game against WAFA.

The academy side proved a tough nut to crack for the league title hopefuls as their title ambitions suffered a big jolt.

Kotoko scored very early in the game just in the second minute after Francis Andy Kumi was hauled down in the penalty box after a through pass from Emmanuel Gyamfi for Abdul Ganiyu to slot home.

WAFA pulled parity on the stroke of half time through danger man Justus Torsutey to peg back the porcupine warriors.

Speaking after the match on Saturday, man of the match Imoro Ibrahim says they need the win badly but it never came as they did their best.

“We needed these points very much but we did our best. We worked hard for it but we couldn’t get it," he said after the game.

“So we are looking forward to our next game.
“We were eager to score, we wanted the three points very much.

“It’s not because of Hearts of Oak but we needed the points but we couldn’t get it," he added.

Kotoko will next play against Aduana Stars at Dormaa in their match day 27 clash.
