The Eastern Regional Police Command say they will continue to show heavy presence in Kwahu-Abene until all potential threats to security subside.
Daasebre Akuamoah Kwasi Agyepong II known in private life as Eugene Kwasi Asante Boadi, a 34-year-old Chartered Accountant was installed as Abenehene and Kwahuhene following the enstoolment of Prof. Badu Akosa as Chief for same town.
The legitimacy of Prof. Akosa is under contention by an opposing faction of the kingmakers and Chiefs in the area led by Chief of Abetifi and Acting Paramount Chief of Kwahuman, Nana Asiedu Agyemang II.
A disclaimer was issued by the opposing group indicating that Prof. Akosa, the renowned pathologist, is not the Chief of Abene and for that matter, paramount Chief of Okwahuman.
The situation led to clashes and injuries as the two factions invaded Abene township with Land guards.
A new Chief known in private life as Eugene Kwasi Asante Boadi was installed over the weekend sparing fears of potential troubles in the town.
But the Eastern Regional police PRO, ASP Ebenezer Tetteh said the police have the situation under control, and indicated Police will remain in the town until further notice.
“We have been on the ground ever since. We are there to supervise an installation or support one side or the other. We are there because there was a mere breach of peace in the area and since then our men have been deployed on the ground and they continue to be on the ground and they’ve been there since. What I can tell you is that they are professionally and competently carrying out their legitimate duty on the ground.”
