The Member of Parliament for Yendi, Farouk Aliu Mahama has stated that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) aims to secure 50% of the votes in the Northern Region in the  December presidential and parliamentary elections.

He attributes this ambitious goal to the significant developmental achievements made in the region during the NPP’s governance over the past seven and a half years.

Mr. Mahama highlighted key investments in infrastructure, including roads, health facilities, educational buildings, human resource development, rural electrification, and business growth.

In an interview with Asaase Radio on Friday, July 19, he also praised NPP flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP’s presidential candidate, for his credibility and forward-thinking policies, which he believes will be crucial in achieving this target.

Mr. Mahama expressed confidence that these accomplishments, along with Dr. Bawumia’s strong credentials, will strengthen the NPP’s efforts to secure half of the votes in the Northern Region.

“This time, we are aiming for 50% of the votes in the north. Our projection is realistic because John Mahama received significantly more votes than the NPP in the 2020 elections. Dr. Bawumia’s message focuses on evidence-based development. In Ghana’s history, no government has constructed a 168 km road in northern Ghana, but the NPP government broke that record,” he emphasized.

“The Vice President initiated the World Bank project, which funded the construction of the road from Tamale to Yendi, extending to Zabzugu and Tatale. No government has ever done that,” he added.
