National Communication Officer for the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is lamenting over the austere living conditions under the leadership of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

“We are living in very difficult times. The Ghanaian people are living within a certain economic climate, affected by myriad of factors; cost of fuel, taxes, exchange rate depreciation and so on. All these factors have worsened over the last 2 and half years and have conspired to make life unbearable for majority of Ghanaians”, he lamented.

Contributing to a panel discussion on Radio Gold’s Alhaji and Alhaji weekend talk show on Pan African TV, Sammy Gyamfi revealed that “today as we speak, a gallon of fuel which used to go for Ghc14 Cedis as at December 2016 when we went to the polls is now going for Ghc24 Cedis”.

“Drivers are complaining, the trotro mates are complaining, Ghanaians are complaining. The increment in the cost of fuel alone has had severe ripple effects on almost everything in the country,” he stressed.

The NDC National Executive insisted that the kind of living conditions the Akufo-Addo government has subjected Ghanaians to should not call for the recent electricity and water tariffs increment as it will worsen the already bad economic situation Ghanaians are in; thus, it will increase the already high cost of living.

“If you were paying Ghc100 for electricity every month, be prepared to be paying around Ghc110 or Ghc120 per month now. We will be paying more for water now; this increment no doubt will impose more economic hardship, more economic burden on the already impoverished Ghanaian and that is why we in the NDC cannot accept this because the times we are living in and the current economic environment Ghanaians find themselves in do not justify this increment. The NHIS as we speak now is collapsing,” he asserted.
