The work of the Committee of Eminent Chiefs tasked to solve the Dagbon crisis will come to an end only after the enskinment of a substantive Ya Na for Dagbon in the Northern Region, leader of the committee, Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has said.

Otumfuo disclosed this at a meeting on Wednesday, 21 November 2018, to present a peace roadmap to President Akufo-Addo at the Jubilee House.

He explained that: “This committee is presenting this (report) to you (Nana Akufo-Addo) but we haven’t finished until we get a new Ya Na and, so, we shall still engage them and the processes for the new Ya Na till we get a new Ya Na and hopefully, we will come back here to present the new Ya Na to you.”

Meanwhile, Mr Akufo-Addo has said he has no preferential candidate as far as who becomes the next Dagbon Overlord (Ya Na) is concerned.

His only interest, he said, is to see the area flourish and prosper in peace, as the choice of who becomes the next Ya Na is the sole preserve of the chiefs and people of Dagbon.

“I have said on many occasions, I'm not a Dagomba and, I, therefore, cannot be an Andani or Abudu. I have no candidate for the office of the Ya Na. That is a matter for the people of Dagbon.

“I am just an ordinary Ghanaian who wants to see the peace, progress and prosperity of all parts of our beautiful country without any discrimination or differentiation,” he noted.
