Privacy is always a delicate subject in the world of technology. While a lot of users don’t actually seem to care about how their personal data, information is being used, in the last couple of years the importance of privacy has come to fore. And no, we aren’t accusing people of being lax about their data but the ever-growing user base of Facebook is a testament that most people aren’t really bothered. In such times, Apple – which has its own share of privacy faux pas moments – has always championed the need for maintaining users’ privacy. Perhaps Apple is set to take its crusade for privacy a notch higher. According to a report by MacRumours, Apple has registered the domain name privacyisimportant.com.

As per records obtained from Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), on March 4, Apple registered the domain name. Now, domain names can be registered by one and all and we are pretty sure Apple too has many of them which are lying unused. Perhaps this one could be for a marketing campaign around privacy or it could just be a random registration.

Apple has never shied away from talking about the importance of privacy. The company had even said that privacy of users is their fundamental right. At the CES 2019, Apple had also put up a billboard right opposite the venue. The ad had a picture of the iPhone and the tagline was, “what happens in your iPhone, stays in your iPhone.”It was an obvious dig at Google and Android smartphone makers.

However, as we said, Apple has also had occasions where some privacy flaw has been exposed. The most recent was a bug that led the company to temporary pause its Group FaceTime feature. The importance of privacy is a subject that -- with the rise of cybersecurity threats -- is bound to gain more prominence. Hypothetically, if Facebook had done this then perhaps “wearesorry.com” would’ve been a more apt domain name to register.
