NEW DELHI: In a rather subtle move just a week before Apple’s “Show Time” event at the Steve Jobs Theatre in Cupertino, the company had released an ad about how privacy matters. In more than one way it was a dig at Facebook and Google as both the tech giants have had certain issues with privacy -- more so with Facebook than Google. The privacy theme was written all over the latest Apple event as the Cupertino-based tech giant didn’t miss a chance to point out the significance of privacy.

Take the case where the Apple Card was unveiled. While Apple will store information of the user on the device, it categorically said that the information won’t be sold to third-party companies. The company even said that, “Apple doesn’t know where a customer has shopped, what they bought or how much they’ve paid.”

Even while talking about Apple Arcade, the company mentioned two important things: it will be totally ad-free and game developers won’t be able to collect data or track how people play. However, it did mention – in the case of Apple Arcade – that developers will be able to do so with consent from users. What this consent policy would be, it wasn’t specified.

The mention of privacy was once again propped up while unveiling its new News and TV apps and services. As a company, Apple has always taken a moral high ground when it comes to respecting its users’ privacy. Apple CEO Tim Cook back in October 2018 had tweeted how privacy is of utmost importance to the company. “We believe that privacy is a fundamental human right. No matter what country you live in, that right should be protected in keeping with four essential principles,” Cook had tweeted before elaborating how “companies should challenge themselves to de-identify customer data or not collect that data in the first place.” He further said that users should know what data is being collected and for what purpose. It doesn’t come as a surprise that at its latest event, Apple has once again stressed on users’ privacy and took dig at other tech biggies like Facebook and Google.
