Former Black Stars player Charles Taylor has question the wisdom in government's desire to spend $25m on the Black Stars as they prepare for the 2021 AFCON tournament and the 2022 World Cup qualify.

A breakfast meeting was held recently at the seat of governement to woe sponsorship for the Black Stars and other national teams in a meeting with CEO's of state firms and corporate organizations.

A budget of $25million has been projected to help Ghana win the AFCON title and also qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Government has proposed to pay $10million while various corporate bodies will top up with the remaining $15million.

Since that news a lot of Ghanaian have expressed dissatisfaction about that decision to raise that much money for the Black Stars.

According to Charles Taylor, It is pointless to spend that obscene amount of money when our economy is that bad.

“Spending such amount of money on the Black Stars is unnecessary because we have all played for the national team before. I’m not jealous about the players taking this money but the President must also look at the economy”

“The economy is not good so if you splash this money into the Black Stars the youth might think bad, even the money the country is investing in the Black Stars is higher than the winner of the AFCON. How much do the winner of the world cup proper gain? He quizzed.

“The president should find people who have a fair idea about football and plan things well. It’s about time we invest in the Division One and Two leagues” he said on Angel TV.

Ghana have already secured qualification for the upcoming Afcon, holding South Africa in the qualifiers last month to secure their place.

The Black Stars will be making their 23rd appearance at the championship.
