Opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) will over the weekend hold their Parliamentary primaries across the country.

The party will not hold elections in 39 constituencies where incumbent MP’s and other aspirants are going unopposed with elections in five constituencies including Asawase and Elembelle still on hold.

It will hold the polls in 157 constituencies. In 39 constituencies, incumbent MPs and other aspirants are going unopposed whilst the party is yet to open nominations in 74 constituencies.

NDC decided to hold the elections in just 157 constituencies instead of 275, with the Party’s general secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah explaining why elections are not being held in some constituencies.

“Prior to the opening of nominations the party had contracted an organization to do some research work focusing on each constituency its characteristics, its challenges, problems, possible candidates and so on so that we can have that as a guide as we approach the elections.”

“And we chose to begin the election in those constituencies where the exercise had been completed so that’s how come we opened nominations for certain number of constituencies”

“So the constituencies which has been processed for the elections include constituencies where we have sitting MP’s and other orphan constituencies”

“Maybe instead of going horizontally we have decided to go vertically so that this process that is going to happen you can’t describe it as elections in orphan constituencies exclusively or constituencies with sitting MP’s exclusively”
