The Ghana Athletics Association (GAA) has named 19 strong athletes to represent the country in the upcoming West Africa Solidarity Championship, with long-distance runner William Amponsah in the team.

The championships will be held in the capital city of Burkina Faso, Ouagadougou.

The West Africa Solidarity Championship is scheduled to take place from 9th – 11th July 2021.

The Ghanaian contingents are the strongest and most favorites to win most of the medals in the upcoming championships.

For the past two decades, Ghanaian athletes are making big difference on the international level. Arguably Ghanaian Athletes are the best in Africa currently when it comes to the sprinter’s side.

The 22 contingents comprise of 1 official, 2 coaches, 12 male athletes, 7 female athletes. Below are the names of the officials, athletes, and their disciplines.

The team will be led by the GAA Eastern Regional Chairman Kofi Sarpong. There will be two coaches which will accompany the team Sowah Georgina of Ghana Revenue Authority and Dwumfour Robert of University of Development Studies. Ghana selects 19 athletes for the West Africa Solidarity Championship.

Edwin Kwabla Gadayi (100m/200m), Baba Seidu Mommudu (400mH), Rose Amoanimaa Yeboah (High Jump) all of the University of CapeCoast.

Sarfo Ansah (100m/200m), Aggerh Barnabas (100m/200m), Kate Agyeman (100m/4×100m) all of the University of Development Studies.

Osman Ahmed Saeed (400m/4×400m), Mensah Janet (100m/200m/4×100m), Fatawu Mariama (400m), Nafew Mohammed (Javelin) all of Kumasi.

Prince Charles Frimpong (400m/4×400m), William Amponsah (10,000m), Lariba Juliana Sakat (1500m) all of the University of Education, Winneba.

Raymond French (400m/4×400m) of Takoradi Technical University, Barnabas Dompey (400mH/4×400m) of Ghana Armed Forces, Jeff Hammond (Long Jump) of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science Technology, Grace Obour (200m/400m/4×100m) of the University of Ghana.

Seidu Abdul Basit (Long Jump) of Obuasi Senior High Technical, Benedicta Kwarteng (100m/4×100m) of Osei Kyeretwie Senior High.
