FA Cup Committee Chairman Wilson Arthur has issued a firm ultimatum to the Ghana Football Association (GFA), declaring that he will only remain in his role if allowed to operate independently without interference.

Arthur, who has led the Committee since November 2019 following the appointment of Kurt Okraku as GFA President, made his position clear in an interview with Sporty FM.

“For me to continue as the Chairman of the FA Cup Committee is not only in my power,” Arthur stated. “But I will only continue as the Chairman of the FA Cup if I am given the room to have control over what we are doing.”

Under his stewardship, the domestic competition has experienced a notable revival, with increased sponsorship, improved organization, and greater visibility for lower-division clubs across the country. The transformation has turned the FA Cup into a credible and inspiring platform for Ghanaian football development.

Despite these successes, Arthur’s comments suggest growing frustration over behind-the-scenes challenges that may be threatening the integrity of his work.

His remarks come shortly after Asante Kotoko were crowned 2024/25 FA Cup champions, defeating surprise finalists Golden Kick 2-1 to secure Ghana’s spot in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup.
