There was drama at an Accra Circuit Court on Friday February 3, 2017 when a mother briefly passed out after her 30-year-old son was sentenced to 20 years in jail for defiling an eight-year-old girl.

Accra News’ Ama Brako Ampofo reported that the accused, Vessel Kwasi Yeboah, a footballer, on September 27, 2015 invited the victim and her little brother, then four years old – who live with their mother at Agona nyakrom but were spending the school holidays with their grandmother at Kisseman in Accra – to his room. While there, the accused pulled down the panties of the little girl in the presence of the four-year-old, and had sex with her before releasing the two to go home.

The victim’s mother returned home to find her daughter looking unwell, only to see blood stains in her panties after examining her daughter. It was then that the victim’s brother disclosed what had transpired while they were in Yeboah’s room.

Yeboah pleaded not guilty to the offence but was handed a 20-year prison sentence by Justice Abena Oppong Adjin Doku.

The accused’s mother, upon hearing of the conviction of her son, broke down wailing and subsequently collapsed but was revived and led out of the courtroom.
