Aspiring Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Asare Bediako is expected to announce his decision to pull out of the race against the incumbent Regional Chairman, Mr Bernard Antwi Bosiako, aka Chairman Wontumi.
The decision although unconfirmed comes after months of pressure from the party's top hierarchy to stop Mr Robert Asare-Bediako from contesting Chairman Wontumi in the regional chairmanship race to ensure that Chairman Wontumi runs the race as an unopposed candidate.
Earlier, sources close to the former Asokwa Constituency Chairman indicated that powerful people within the party. had tried to stop Mr. Asare-Bediako from contesting
“He was called on Thursday on his way to the vetting to abort his move but he went through the vetting successfully. But the pressure became intense during the Easter festivities, he was called to meet some big men so that he will not contest,” the source said
In latest development, Mr. Asare-Bediako is reportedly readying to address a press conference later today to announce his decision to pull out of the race.
The host of Kumasi-based Nhyira FM Morning show, Aduanaba Kofi Asante Ennin confirmed on “Kroyimunsem” Political talk show Monday about the decision.
“I can tell you that by the close of today, Chairman Asare Bediako will announce his decision not to contest so that Chairman Bernard Antwi Bosiako will run unopposed”, the renowned broadcaster told listeners.
