The Yilo Krobo constituency executives of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), has rubbished claims that the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Yilo Krobo in the Eastern region, Ebenezer Tetteh Kupualor is disrespectful towards chiefs in the area.

The Paramount Chief of the Yilo - Klo State, Nene Oklepeme Nuer Anorbaa Sasruku II, on Saturday 23rd November 2019, when speaking at the festival subjected a baptism of fire on the MCE by saying he does not have respect to the chiefs and people of Yilo Krobo.

He accused the assembly chief of insolence, particularly towards traditional leaders and the people in general, and added that God will be the ultimate judge if the people had no power over his insolent attitude towards them.

Even though the MCE presented some items and an amount of Ghc 10,000 to support the festival with the promise to present an additional amount in due course.

But the angry chief when speaking while looking straight in the face of MCE said “My chiefs say you are disrespectful, the people say you don’t respect them. When they come to your office [with a problem] you tell them, I will do it if I want to or will not do it if I like and nobody can do anything to me. I want to tell you that if nobody can do anything to you, God can do something to you.”

The Chief also regretted that several calls on the assembly and MCE to honour the government’s obligation to pay monthly allowances to the chiefs have fallen on deaf ears.

He also accused the MCE and other officials of the assembly of taking home weekly allowances of Ghc 25000 each in addition to drinks and water under the pretext of catering for guests while denying chiefs similar privileges as they equally undertake similar expenses.

Reactions

However, in a statement issued and signed by the Constituency Organiser, Eric Tetteh rubbished the Chiefs claim by setting the records straight.

The party noted that there is no gainsaying or denying the fact that there is a chieftaincy dispute in Yilo Krobo of which the matter is still in contention at the court.

According to the party, there is litigation by the faction led by the paramount queen mother which has made it difficult for the MCE and assembly to deal effectively with the Yilo Krobo Traditional Council.

The party noted that "the chief alleged that, the MCE is disrespectful. We respond and say that, due to the dispute in Yilo, the MCE is guided by advice from the municipal Security Council. If the inability of the MCE to yield to the demands of some chiefs is what is been misconstrued to be disrespect to the chiefs, then we assure the chiefs that, it would be unproductive to take sides in the Yilo dispute. We will be fair to both sides until the dispute is finally settled".

The party also pointed out clearly to the chief that there is no rule that chiefs are paid by assemblies and its untrue that Chief executives are given 2,500 every week as he said.

The statement further clarified that the MCE has not recruited anybody to work at the university, adding that the President has assured them that over 3000 youth will be employed, therefore the Assembly will engage the chiefs when the needs arise.

The party noted that the government is sourcing external funding to repair the Oterkpolu Bridge.

The statement also rubbished the claims that the MCE is having issues with the Zongo community, convincing with investors to mine limestone in the area and also given out the Asensini forest for harvesting lumber.

The statement concluded: "We want to assure the public that together with the traditional council Yilo will be developed. We will collaborate with the stakeholders in making Yilo a model within the comity of districts in Ghana. We pray for a speedy resolution of the Yilo Traditional impasse. We will not meddle in the dispute; since we are for peace, unity and development".
