Zoomlion Ghana Limited has issued a detailed statement clarifying its contractual relationship with the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) following recent public discussion sparked by a letter from the Office of the President dated June 11, 2025.
Addressing speculation surrounding the status of its contract under the YEA’s Street Sweeping Programme, Zoomlion explained that the agreement simply reached its natural expiration and was not cancelled or terminated by the government. The contract, which was originally set to conclude in March 2024, was extended for six months and officially ended in September 2024.
“For over 19 years, Zoomlion has worked closely with successive governments through the YEA module,” the company stated. “Our relationship reflects a shared commitment to sustainable development and should not be misrepresented as having been abruptly ended.”
Zoomlion further clarified that the letter from the Presidency relates only to the expired street sweeping contract and does not affect its other sanitation agreements or its broader collaboration with the YEA.
Reaffirming its dedication to public service, the company expressed support for the government’s decision to adopt competitive procurement practices for future sanitation contracts. Zoomlion noted that the now-expired YEA contract was itself awarded through a competitive bidding process in 2019.
“We welcome the move towards greater transparency and look forward to participating in upcoming procurement processes,” the statement read, highlighting the company’s “unmatched technical capacity, extensive operational network, and innovation-led approach.”
Zoomlion also applauded the government’s initiative to improve remuneration for sanitation workers as part of sector reforms, and reiterated its mission to promote dignified and sustainable livelihoods for frontline sanitation staff across the country.
The company also pledged full cooperation with audits and accountability measures directed by the government regarding payments and claims made under the expired contract.
“As a responsible corporate entity, integrity, transparency, and value for money are cornerstones of our operations. We welcome these audits as a means to strengthen public trust and improve service delivery,” the company stated.
Zoomlion highlighted its growing continental footprint, revealing that 24 African countries are currently exploring partnerships with the company, many of which are at the level of memoranda of understanding (MOUs) or feasibility studies. These countries seek to replicate Ghana’s model of sanitation and waste management.
“These collaborations reflect not only the strength of our model but also Ghana’s leadership in driving environmental transformation across Africa,” the statement noted.
In closing, Zoomlion pledged continued alignment with President John Dramani Mahama’s RESET agenda—which prioritizes Rebuilding, Equity, Sustainability, Empowerment, and Transformation.
“We reaffirm our commitment to working alongside government and stakeholders to build a cleaner, greener, and more resilient Ghana,” the statement concluded.
