Former Dreams FC forward Zuberu Sharani made his highly anticipated UEFA Champions League debut on Tuesday evening, coming on as a substitute in Slovan Bratislava’s 4-0 loss to Manchester City.
Known affectionately as the “Chereponi Neymar,” Sharani entered the match in the 62nd minute, taking the place of Slovakian midfielder Vladimir Weiss.
Although Slovan struggled to contend with the reigning Premier League champions, Sharani's debut represents a significant milestone in his burgeoning career.
The 24-year-old is eager to build on this experience in upcoming fixtures.
Manchester City displayed their dominance from the outset, with Phil Foden leading the attack. Ilkay Gundogan opened the scoring in the 8th minute, followed by a composed finish from Foden.
Erling Haaland added to his tally with his 11th goal of the season, and James McAtee capped off the scoring with his first goal for the club.
Despite a commendable effort from Slovan’s goalkeeper Dominik Takac, City's superior play was evident throughout the match.
This victory marked City’s first win in the revamped Champions League format, having previously drawn against Inter Milan in their opener.
As Sharani settles into the prestigious competition, he will be looking to make a more substantial impact in future matches for Slovan Bratislava.
