Thirteen suspected criminals have been arrested in joint police and military swoop at Walewale and Wulugu in the West Mamprusi municipality of the North East Region.

A notorious drug dealer in the West Mamprusi municipality one Yakubu Saibu was arrested by the security personnel at his residence at Moshie Fongni in Walewale.

A search conducted in the suspect’s room revealed two bags of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.

The West Mamprusi Municipal Police Commander, DSP Cosmos Awe, who confirmed the arrest to journalists said the suspected drug dealer confirmed that the substance found in his room belonged to him and that he also confirmed that drug peddling was his business.

According to him, the suspects will be arraigned before court after investigations.

He indicated that the security will continue to conduct such swoop to send a signal to criminals in the municipality.

“By now the information has gone viral in the Region and the potential criminals will stop planning to undertake any criminal activities, we want to destabilize the criminals because it is through this that they come together to sit and plan so I want to let the crumble know that this is just the beginning and we are never going to stop.”

The swoop was conducted in various criminal hideouts and bases in the West Mamprusi municipality by officers of the Counter-terrorism unit and the military.

The security personnel also conducted a swoop along with Tamale – Bolga highway noted for various robberies in the municipality especially robberies on tomatoes traders who travel to neighbouring Burkina Faso to purchase their goods.
