The Minister of Energy and Green Transition, John Jinapor, has announced what he describes as a major breakthrough in the recovery of critical assets belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

According to him, authorities have successfully retrieved 1,569 ECG containers as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen oversight and improve efficiency within the power sector.

Although he did not disclose the contents of the containers or explain how they went missing, the Minister said the development forms part of a broader initiative aimed at addressing logistical and operational challenges affecting the energy value chain.

Speaking to journalists, Dr. Jinapor stressed that the recovery exercise is central to his ministry’s strategy to restore discipline and accountability in the sector.

“My vision on recovery remains unchanged,” he said, adding, “When we’re done, we will reconcile the figures and do what’s needed.”

His remarks indicate that a full audit will follow the recovery process to verify inventory records and address any potential discrepancies or management issues.

The update comes as the Energy Ministry continues to manage wider challenges in the power sector, including ongoing efforts to stabilise operations at the Akosombo Dam.

Work is currently underway to restore the remaining three generating units following a recent substation fire.

Meanwhile, the Minister has directed ECG to regularly communicate planned outages to the public to ensure greater transparency and keep consumers “reliably informed” about power supply updates.
