I’m positive about the outcome – GFA President Kurt Okraku ahead of Ghana-England game

Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku says he is confident the Black Stars can produce a positive result against England when the two sides meet in a crucial Group L fixture at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
His optimism comes after Ghana opened their campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Panama at BMO Field, where Caleb Yirenkyi’s late goal earned the four-time African champions all three points.
The result leaves Ghana second in Group L behind England, who made an emphatic start with a 4-2 victory over Croatia.
Speaking ahead of Tuesday’s highly anticipated encounter at Gillette Stadium, Okraku described the fixture as one that carries the intensity and unpredictability of a local derby, insisting that such occasions often ignore pre-match expectations.
“I’m not thinking too much about the game against England,” Okraku told 3Sports.
“For me, Ghana against England is a derby like Ghana against Nigeria or Hearts of Oak against Kotoko.
“I’m positive about the outcome.”
England may be favourites on paper, but Okraku believes the Black Stars have what it takes to rise to the occasion and continue their impressive start to the tournament.
A victory for either side would put them in a strong position to qualify for the knockout stage of the expanded 48-team World Cup, with Ghana chasing a place beyond the group phase for the first time since their memorable run to the quarter-finals in South Africa in 2010.
The Black Stars will round off their Group L campaign against Croatia four days after facing England, hoping to maintain their momentum and secure a place in the next round.
