The Vice President - Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, has commissioned Nano Foods Limited, formally called ''Astek", a pineapple juice processing factory at Nsawam in the Eastern Region under the One District, One Factory initiative.

It took the intervention of the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Hon. Frank Annoh-Dompreh to revive this company after it collapsed some 21 years ago due to financial challenges.

The factory is currently operating under the Ghana Free Zones Authority.

Speaking at the commissioning, Dr. Bawumia commended Hon. Annoh-Dompreh who doubles as the Majority Chief Whip, for being instrumental in linking the NANO company to the 1D1F secretariat, the Ministry of Trade and Industry and the Ghana Export and Import Bank (EXIMBANK), the founding partner of the project.

The Vice President touted the NPP administration’s industrialization drive describing it as unmatched since the era of Ghana’s first President Kwame Nkrumah.

The industrial transformation of the country, according to the Vice President, remains a top priority for the NPP administration as it looks forward to partnering with private entities to put up more factories.

He said with the country’s natural resources stashed in the districts, factories under the 1D1F policy are designed to add value to those resources with the ultimate plan of providing decent jobs for the teaming unemployed youth.

He further reiterated the government’s commitment to transform the country aimed at turning the tide of unemployment and cut back on the importation of foodstuff.

On his part, Hon. Annoh-Dompreh indicated that the revival of the Astek Processing Factory is good news for the nation as according to him, the factory will promote economic activity and create jobs for the youth in Nsawam and its surrounding towns.

He emphasized that the intention of the reintroduction of the Astek factory into the system is not to collapse the Blue Skies factory but to complement its good works done.

He revealed how proud he was to see the fruit processing company being finally being commissioned as according to him, some doubted its existence and assured that he was determined to lifting Nsawam to a higher level.

At the event, the management of Nano Foods indicated that it intends to export 70% of finished products to Europe, America and parts of the African continent.

The management presented a silver-molded pineapple to the Vice President.

They also presented a citation to Hon. Annoh-Dompreh for his immense contribution towards the revival of the factory.
