Former Ghana Sports Minister Nii Lante Vanderpuye has praised referee Daniel Nii Laryea for what he described as an outstanding performance in the recent 2025 AFCON.

Speaking to Joy Sports, Mr. Vanderpuye said Laryea’s display was a source of national pride, highlighting the composure and authority the Ghanaian official showed in the middle.

“I am so proud as a Ghanaian because one Ghanaian in the middle distinguished himself so well,” he said. “The referee was excellent, and I am sure FIFA would be considering him for the World Cup.”

Vanderpuye, who has been a long-time advocate for the recognition of Ghanaian sports officials, went as far as awarding Laryea a 95 per cent rating for his performance.

His comments come amid growing recognition of Ghanaian referees on the continental and global stage, with Laryea’s recent outings drawing praise for their consistency and professionalism.

For Laryea, the endorsement from a former sports minister adds to the momentum of what is shaping up to be a significant period in his refereeing career, as Ghana continues to produce officials capable of handling the highest levels of international football.
