The most anticipated 2025 FIFA Club World Cup final between Chelsea FC and Paris Saint-Germain came to light at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, USA.
An exhilarating atmosphere at the fully-packed 82,000 plus seater stadium saw the novel FIFA Club World Cup have its grand final between English side, Chelsea FC and French outfit, PSG lock, horns against eachother in an enthralling showdown.
The final, which saw dignified personalities showing up in great fashion as also the 47th President of the United States, President Donald Trump, being in attendance as special guest of honor and a host of other August personalities being present for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup final.
A lively atmosphere at the MetLife stadium set the tone for the occasion, as the crowd packed in the stands had their voices heard from across the vicinity where the game was held and fans showing their excitement in a marvelous fashion.
Going into the game, PSG were seen as favorites because they had a great run of form in the competition, winning five out of six games on their road to the final and amonst the five games won were games against big clubs like Spanish outfit Atletico Madrid, German powerhouse Bayern Munich in the quarterfinals— a game they won even with two men down and also beating 15-time UEFA Champions League winners, Real Madrid in the semifinals by four unanswered goals.
They were ultimately tipped to lift the all-new version of the FIFA Club World Cup title as they looked very likely to be triumphant in the game, looking at their journey.
Chelsea on the other hand were seen as the “despised underdogs” coming into the game as their journey to the final was not as “impeccably perfect” as compared to their opponents PSG; they had to deal with very tough Brazilian sides on their path to the final, losing to Flamengo and winning against Palmeiras and Fluminense in the quarter and semifinals respectively.
The epic encounter commenced in a very intense fashion as the ambiance of the atmosphere gave the game the unrelenting energy and unabating enthusiasm.
From the blast of the whistle for kick off, the game had its most anticipated intensity reflecting on the pitch as both teams came against each other in the first ten minutes, locking horns tactically but Chelsea seemed to have the upper hand as they took the game to the PSG side by exploiting their defensive vulnerabilities with counter attacks.
On the 22nd minute, Chelsea’s new number 10, Cole Palmer had already opened the scoring with a sublime, cultured left footed finish after a long distributed pass from goalkeeper Sanchez has reched Malo Gusto, who ran down the right wing and gets into the box to get a cut back to find Cole Palmer who slotted in the first for Chelsea, getting it past Donnarumma who was late to the passing of the ball into the back of the net. Fourteen minutes prior, Cole Palmer had hit a wonderful shot from the edge of the box after a beautifully drawn back heel pass from Joao Pedro, which was inches away from goal.
Chelsea became the dominant side after the goal, as it gave them the momentum and motivation they needed to beat the European champions, getting on to outplay them and dominating most parts of the game.
Luis Enrique’s stategic strength was nowhere near to that of Enzo Maresca’s, as the latter’s tactical acumen outweighed that of the Spaniard— making Chelsea the better side on the pitch as at minute 25.
On the 30th minute, Cole Palmer grabbed his second goal of the game as he took advantage of a long pass from midfield, finding himself in the final attacking third, dazzling with the ball at his feet and faking a couple passes to confuse the PSG defense and finally getting the ball at the back of the net again in same fashion as the first goal, getting it past the hands of lofty goalkeeper Donnarumma. It took Chelsea up by two on the half hour mark.
Chelsea kept the dominance on the pitch and finally got paid for their work as they got the third goal in a very beautiful fashion.
On the 42nd minute, Chelsea’s new attacker whose brace saw off Fluminense in the semifinal and gave Chelsea a grand final berth prevailed again, as he score a wonderfully chipped goal over Donnarumma after Cole Palmer found him running in behind the defense of PSG.
The first half ended 3-0 in favor of Chelsea as the Blues stunned the entire world with their incredible performance in the first 45 minutes of the game.
The second half began with same intensity, as Chelsea kept the game going and never relented; the English side, having been the better side in the first half commenced the second half in same fashion with great chances being created and capitalizing on the momentum until the end of the game.
A superlative performance by Chelsea’s Cole Palmer resulted in him voted for as the Superior Player of the Match as he was involved in all three goals of the game, scoring twice and assisting the final goal.
At the end of the game, Chelsea, against all odds, emerged champions of the new lucrative FIFA Club World Cup tournament as they officially became the first team to clinch the all-new quadrennial world club championship.
At the end of the tournament, Chelsea’s Cole Palmer and Robert Sanchez emerged Player and Goalkeeper of the Tournament respectively as PSG’s Désire Doué was adjudged Best Young Player of the Tournament. Real Madrid’s Gonzalo Garcia emerged Top Scorer of the Tournament as he scored four goals in the tournament.
USA’s President, Donald Trump, accompanied by the FIFA President Gianni Infantino handed Chelsea the trophy on the podium as the West London club became the first ever team to lift the new FIFA Club World Cup title.
Chelsea are set to have the FIFA Club World Cup winner’s badge on their shirt for the next four years as their reign continues until 2029 when the next edition takes place.
