Esperance de Tunis becomes the third African side among four (4) to be eliminated from the ongoing FIFA Club World Cup in USA.
The Tunisian giants lost their third group game to 2021 European champions, Chelsea FC, as it marked their second loss in three group games, having lost their opening game to Brazilian outfit, Flamengo RJ and grabbing a win in the second group game against America's Los Angeles FC who managed to amass just a point in all three games and are seated on the bottom of Group D.

The four time CAF Champions League winners joined neighbours in the northern part of Africa and Egyptian giants, Al Ahly who were also drawn in Group A alongside Brazilian side, Palmeiras, Lionel Messi's Inter Miami and two-time European champions, FC Porto to taste elimination first hand in the improved 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
The Egyptian giants drew their opening game with Inter Miami in a goalless stalemate before losing in their second game to Brazilian side, Palmeiras by 2-0 then their final group game ending in an 8-goal thriller as they locked horns with FC Porto.

Also, the 2024-2025 Tunisian top flight league winners became the club with the least goals (1) in Group D-- a worse stat than last-placed LAFC in the FIFA Club World Cup. On the other hand, Moroccan side, Wydad Athletic also got demoted as they lost all first two games in group G where they were rubbing shoulders with the "Italian Old Ladies," Juventus FC, as well as 2022 European champions, Manchester City and United Arab Emirates (UAE) big wigs, Al Ain,
Wydad Athletic lost 2-0 to a ten-man Manchester City in the group opener before losing the second successive game to current European champions, Paris Saint-Germain 4-1. The Casablanca outfit recorded the worst stat by a club at the tournament among the African contingent representing the continent.

However, the best performing African side in the tourney turned out to be South African side, Mamelodi Sundowns who are hoisting the flag of Africa so high at the intercontinental stage as they opened their account at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup with a resounding victory over South Korean side, Ulsan HD win a 1-0 win.
The 2024-2025 South African PSL Betway Premiership champions recorded the first victory for Africa and suddenly fell short in the second group game against one-time European champions, Borussia Dortmund in a 7-goal thriller where the German side won narrowly and sealed a maiden victory at the tournament, having ended their first group game against Braziian outfit, Fluminense in a goalless stalemate. Mamelodi Sundowns were drawn in Group F alongside Fluminense, Borussia Dortmund and Ulsan HD.

In the final round of group games, the Brazilians of Africa will be locking horns with Fluminense, who top the group on 4 points after two games and are at par with second-placed Borussia Dortmund but ahead on goal advantage.
A win for Mamelodi Sundowns would render them amassing 6 points and ultimately edging past their rivals in Group F to seal a place in the knockout stage and subsequently sealing a quarterfinal berth if they emerge victorious again in that regard.
