Former Ghana captain John Mensah has tipped the Black Stars to secure victories in their next two 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Mali.

Ghana will travel to face Chad on September 4 at the Stade Olympique Maréchal Idriss Déby Itno before returning home to host Mali on September 8 at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Mensah, who featured for clubs including Sunderland, Lyon, and Rennes, is optimistic the four-time African champions can maintain their recent form and edge closer to sealing a World Cup spot in Canada, the USA, and Mexico.

“If they play like the way they played the last two games, I believe they can qualify. They are playing well now and they know each other very well. I believe if they keep on like that, they can qualify,” he told Citi FM.

The former Black Stars defender, who earned 86 caps and scored three goals for Ghana, emphasized the importance of consistency and team cohesion.

“This is a team they are maintaining to stay in the national team. I believe if they keep them together and make a few changes, they can continue to work together and achieve a trophy for the nation.”

The Black Stars currently top Group I with 15 points after six matches, following back-to-back wins against Chad (in Accra) and Madagascar (in Morocco) in March.
