Germany-born Ghanaian defender, Derrick Arthur Köhn has been handed his first-ever call-up to the Black Stars for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Mali.

The 26-year-old left-back, who was born in Hamburg and holds dual citizenship (German and Ghanaian), has long been on the radar of Ghana’s technical handlers. He will now have the opportunity to showcase his quality on the international stage.

Köhn recently joined Union Berlin from Galatasaray after impressing on loan at Werder Bremen last season, where he made 27 Bundesliga appearances, scoring twice and assisting twice. He featured in Union Berlin’s opening game of the current 2025/26 campaign, helping them to a 2-1 victory over Stuttgart.

Köhn’s pace, energy, and ability to attack from deep have made him a huge prospect in bringing new energy the Black Stars setup as the team looks to cement a spot at the global showpiece in 2026, making a fifth appearance at the Mundial.

Köhn’s inclusion adds to the tally of a growing list of Ghanaian players born in the diaspora who have represented the Black Stars at international level.
