GFA President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku has declared his dream of seeing Ghana lift the FIFA World Cup trophy, setting a bold and unapologetic tone ahead of the 2026 tournament in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

Speaking to 3Sports, Okraku emphasized that winning must be the mindset, not just participation.

“I want to win the World Cup. I’m going to tell the coach that I want to win the World Cup. That should be our vision,” he said.
“Because you don’t go to war thinking about not finishing it or not coming out as victors.”

 Ghana’s World Cup Journey

Ghana’s best-ever performance came in 2010, when the Black Stars reached the quarterfinals in South Africa — narrowly missing a historic semifinal berth. Before such monumental feat, the Black Stars have already reached the Round of 16 in their maiden appearance in the 2006 edition in Germany.

The team went on the qualify for the third successive time at the 2014 edition in Brazil where they exited from the competition in the Group phase. They lost out on a qualification for the subsequent edition in 2018 which was hosted in Russia but made a great comeback to the Mundial as they qualified to the 2022 edition where they only exited in the Group stages in Qatar.

Despite their non-participation in the 2025 AFCON, the Black Stars will now turn attention to their upcoming activities which include:

  • Friendlies vs Japan & South Korea – November 14 & 18

  • World Cup Group Draw – December 5 in Washington

  • FIFA World Cup Kickoff – June 2026

With Otto Addo confirmed to lead the team, and preparations underway, Okraku’s vision signals a new era of belief and ambition — one that aims to reignite national pride and challenge global expectations.
