2026 FIFAWCQ Playoffs: Troost-Ekong warns against complacency as Nigeria faces Gabon
12th November 2025
Nigeria captain William Troost-Ekong has urged his teammates to approach their 2026 FIFA World Cup playoff against Gabon with maximum focus and respect, warning against the dangers of underestimating their opponents.
The Super Eagles face Gabon on Thursday, November 13 at the Prince Moulay El Hassan Sports Complex in Rabat, with the winner advancing to a final playoff clash on November 16 against either Cameroon or DR Congo.
“Gabon is a strong team. Aubameyang continues to lead from the front, causing problems for defenders… In Africa, you can’t underestimate any team,” Troost-Ekong told The Obi Podcast Channel.
Bonus Dispute Disrupts Camp
Nigeria’s preparations have been marred by a training boycott, as players and officials protested unpaid bonuses on Tuesday — just two days before the high-stakes clash.
- Training cancelled due to unresolved entitlements
- Sources say players await firm assurances before resuming
- NFF acknowledges issue but offers no timeline for resolution
“The situation is delicate. Any delay in training could affect match readiness,” insiders warned.
