Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has named teenage forward Jerry Afriyie in his squad for September's 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers double header against Chad and Mali.

The 18-year-old striker, who this week completed a loan move to newly promoted Belgian Pro League side RAAL La Louvière from Saudi Arabian outfit, Al Qadsiah, is among seven forwards called up for the crucial double-header in September including teammate at parent club, Al Qadsiah, Christopher Baah Bonsu.

Afriyie’s inclusion continues his steady rise with the Black Stars, having been consistently invited since November 2024, when he marked his debut with a goal in Ghana’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Niger in a 2-1 loss. He was called up for the March qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar when he made an appearance at the Accra Sports Stadium, coming on for captain Jordan Ayew when Ghana thrashed Chad 5-0.

Afriyie made a competitive appearance for his new club, RAAL La Louvière, few hours after he was announced as a new recruit, when he featured in the league game against Belgian title holders, Royal Union Saint Gilloise in their goalless stalemate.

The highly-rated youngster impressed last season while on loan at Spanish side CD Lugo, where he scored four goals and provided two assists in 10 league matches.

The Black Stars will regroup in Accra on September 1 to begin preparations for the qualifiers. Ghana travel to Ndjamena to face Chad on September 4, before hosting Mali at the Accra Sports Stadium on September 8.
