Mali head coach Tom Saintfiet says his side is determined to make history when they face Ghana in a crunch 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Monday, September 8, at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The Eagles sit third in Group I with 12 points and head into the decisive Matchday 8 clash on the back of a commanding 3-0 win over Comoros earlier on Thursday, September 4.

Speaking to the press after Mali’s arrival in Accra, the Belgian tactician acknowledged the quality of Otto Addo’s Black Stars, who top the group with 16 points, but insisted his team is ready to fight.

“Ghana is a top team in Africa, but we are here to write history and win; they are four points ahead of us, but we are here to make history and win, as I stated”

"At the moment, Ghana is in pole position [to qualify], but we will do everything to qualify, and we will qualify." .

“We will make everything possible to qualify for the World Cup.” Saintfiet hinted
