The Federal Republic of Germany and the United Kingdom have deported 22 Ghanaians for immigration-related issues.
According to the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) Regional Command of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS), the deportees who were all males, with ages ranging from 21 to 60 years were repatriated for a plethora of reasons including overstaying their entry permits and illegal stay.
In a statement signed by its Regional Public Affairs Officer, KIA, Ms Barbara Sam, the GIS indicated that 17 of the deportees were repatriated from Germany under the escort of sixty-seven police officers and some paramedics while the rest were repatriated for UK under the escort 63 police officers with two paramedics and an officer from the British High Commission in Ghana as an observer.
It said out of the 17 deportees from Germany who stayed in the country between three and 10 years, 15 of them arrived on Travel Certificates (TC) issued by the Ghana Embassy in Berlin, Germany, while the remaining two came on Ghanaian passports. It added that 10 of them are from the Ashanti Region, five are from Greater Accra, one from Bono Region and last person, from the Northern Region.
“The deportees from UK who are aged between 26 – 60 years were working and schooling and have lived in the UK for between (5) months and ten (10) years. Three (3) arrived with UK Overstay Certificates issued by the British Authorities and two on Ghanaian passports.
The regional distribution is; Ashanti two (2), Greater Accra two (2) and one from the Bono Regions,” the statement added.
