A 28-year-old man identified only as Kweku has died while in police custody at Techimantia in the Tano South Municipality of the Ahafo Region, amid allegations that he was assaulted by officers during his arrest.

Kweku was detained after his grandmother lodged a complaint with the police, claiming he had threatened to kill her. Officers who responded to the report allegedly beat him before taking him into custody, according to local sources familiar with the incident.

Reports further indicate that Kweku spent an entire day in the police cell without being given food, leaving him weak and visibly unwell.

His condition is believed to have deteriorated overnight, prompting officers to rush him to the Techimantia Government Hospital. However, medical staff pronounced him dead shortly after his arrival.

The Ghana Police Service has since launched a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death. The probe will focus on claims of physical assault, possible neglect, and whether officers followed standard procedures during the arrest and detention.

The incident has sparked concern among residents, with some calling for an independent inquiry to ensure accountability.
