A 45-year-old trader has reportedly been shot dead by armed robbers in Kataa, in the Wa East District of the Upper West Region, last Sunday.

The robbers, who invaded the house of the deceased, Mr Placidia Sagraazaah, took GHC600, a techno mobile phone and a single barrel gun. They also took an unspecified amount of money at the shop of the deceased and bolted with his motorcycle.

The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Regional Police Command, Inspector Gideon Ohene Boateng, confirmed the incident to the Ghanaian Times at Wa, on Monday.

He said the police received a distress call around 11pm on Sunday, of a suspected robbery and murder case at Kataa.

Insp Boateng indicated that when the police arrived at the scene, they found the body of Mr Sagraazaah lying in a pool of blood and an empty BB Cartridge beside him.

He said that when the police inspected the body, they found a deep wound suspected to have been caused by a gunshot, on the stomach.

Insp Boateng said that the son of the deceased, Raymond Sagraazaah, told the police that about 9pm, he heard gunshots from his father’s room and when he rushed to the place, he found three armed robbers taking his father’s items, with his father lying in a pool of blood and his mother lying beside him, terrified and traumatised.

Insp Boateng said Raymond alleged that the robbers instructed him to lead them to the shop where they stole an unspecified amount of money and bolted with his father’s motorcycle.

The Police PRO said the body of Mr Sagraazaah had been deposited at the Wa Hospital mortuary, whereas the wife was on admission at Wa Hospital.

He indicated that the police were investigating the murder, and called on the public to assist by volunteering information on suspicious persons or movements to the police.
