Pius Enam Hadzide, spokesperson for the Bryan Acheampong Campaign Team, has dismissed allegations that former Food and Agriculture Minister Dr. Bryan Acheampong hoarded fertilisers meant for farmers during the 2024 dry spell, calling the claims false, scandalous, and politically driven.
Speaking on Face to Face on Channel One TV with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, Mr. Hadzide said the accusations which also alleged that the incident contributed to the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) electoral loss were entirely baseless.
“They actually said that, that would be scandalous. How can that be? What is Bryan Acheampong going to do with fertiliser? Somebody who is self-made," he said.
Mr. Hadzide explained that during the 2024 dry spell, Dr. Acheampong, as Minister for Agriculture, facilitated the importation and nationwide distribution of fertilisers to support Ghanaian farmers but was not directly responsible for local-level distribution.
“As far as I know, the minister for Agriculture, as an intervention to mitigate the impact of the dry spell, thought about the Ghanaian farmers, imported fertilisers and distributed those fertilisers to each and every single region. The minister’s job is not to go and carry fertilisers and distribute them to farmers.
He added that any delays or lapses in distribution at the district level could not be blamed on the minister, describing such claims as acts of “desperation in the highest order.”
“That is a job for the localised decentralised structures of our governance system, assemblies and so on. If for one reason a district did not distribute fertilisers, or distributed them late…it’s only desperation in the highest order that will make someone put the blame on the sector minister. I don’t know what people are talking about,” he said.
