LGBTQ is not African; it is not natural- Alban Bagbin

Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has reaffirmed his strong opposition to LGBTQ+ activities, declaring that such practices will neither be accepted nor legalised in Ghana.
Speaking during an official visit to Uganda, Speaker Bagbin stressed that Ghana’s cultural values, moral principles, and religious beliefs do not align with LGBTQ+ orientations.
He described ongoing global efforts to promote such practices as foreign impositions that African societies must firmly reject.
“You can be sure that the world they want to create and impose on us will not exist while we are alive. LGBT is not African, it is not natural, and God did not create it. This is an imposition that we must all resist,” he said.
Bagbin’s remarks come amid ongoing legal and political debates in Ghana over the criminalisation of LGBTQ+ activities.
The country’s controversial anti-LGBTQ+ bill was passed by Parliament during the 8th Parliament but failed to receive presidential assent before the term ended.
Although the former President, Nana Akufo-Addo neither signed the bill into law nor referred it to the Supreme Court, several private individuals filed legal challenges questioning both the bill’s constitutionality and aspects of the parliamentary process.
With no ruling issued before the close of the 8th Parliament, the bill subsequently lapsed.
