Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew has appealed to Ghanaian football fans to show greater understanding towards players, stressing that criticism and insults can take a personal toll on those representing the nation.

Speaking to the Ghana Football Association’s media team, Ayew acknowledged the disappointment supporters feel when results do not meet expectations but urged them to remember that players are human beings with emotions and families.

The Leicester City forward said footballers often face intense scrutiny during difficult periods, adding that not every player is equipped to cope with the pressure that comes with public criticism.

“You get frustrated, insulting this, insulting that, but you have to understand that we are human beings. Today can be good; tomorrow cannot be the same,” Ayew said.

“You have to understand that players have emotions. They have families. Sometimes you need to put yourself in our shoes. It’s not everyone who can take that.”

The 33-year-old revealed that he regularly shares the same message with his teammates, encouraging them to remain focused despite external opinions.

“That’s what I tell the boys,” he said. “At the end of the day, everyone has his own opinion, so it’s either you take it or leave it.”

Despite the challenges the Black Stars have faced in recent years, Ayew remains confident brighter days lie ahead for Ghanaian football. The captain believes the team is building towards a successful future and says he can sense positive developments on the horizon.

“I had that feeling a little bit when we qualified for the World Cup, but I know there’s more to come,” he said.

“There’s something coming. There’s something on the way. So I know if we keep on pushing, we will be rewarded.”

Ayew’s comments come as Ghana intensify preparations for their upcoming World Cup campaign. The Black Stars have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia and Panama.

Ghana will begin their campaign against Panama on 17 June, with hopes of making a strong start in a challenging group.

As anticipation builds, Ayew says unity between supporters and players could prove crucial, with the team aiming to repay the faith of fans through improved performances on the pitch.
