The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has closed several unlicensed hospitality establishments in Kasoa for operating without the required regulatory approvals.

The affected facilities, located in Central Kasoa, Ofaakor within the Awutu Senya East Municipality, and Kakraba and Nyanyano in the Gomoa East District, were found to be in violation of the Registration and Licensing of Food, Beverage, and Entertainment Enterprises Regulations, 2016 (L.I. 2238), which mandates all hospitality businesses to be licensed by the GTA.

In addition to operating without valid licenses, some of the establishments were also found to fall short of basic operational standards, raising concerns about safety and service quality.

Shine Dela Gwornu, Deputy Director of the GTA’s Accra West Regional Directorate, explained that the shutdowns are part of a nationwide crackdown on unlicensed hospitality operations.

“This guest house operates without the required licence and is not registered with the Authority, yet it has been in operation all this time. As part of the national agenda to clamp down on illegally operating hospitality facilities, we are here to close them down,” she said.

He reminded operators that, under Ghanaian law, all restaurants, travel and tour companies, guest houses, and hostels must hold a valid GTA license before operating.

The GTA emphasised that these facilities will only be allowed to reopen once their owners meet the required licensing and operational standards. Failure to comply could result in criminal charges, as attempting to reopen without proper clearance is a punishable offense.
