Asante Kotoko head coach Karim Zito says he is fully aware of the challenge that awaits his side as they kick off the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League away to Berekum Chelsea.

The FA Cup holders will be guests of the former league champions at the Golden City Park, a venue where Kotoko have historically struggled to grind out results.

Speaking ahead of the game, Zito acknowledged the weight of the fixture:

“Kotoko does not have a soft game. I remember when I was playing, the younger clubs — anytime they see Kotoko — you see them doing everything to beat Kotoko. So to me, not only Berekum Chelsea, but every game is very difficult. Moreover, according to history, Kotoko don’t easily have it easy over there.”

Despite the difficult record, the Kotoko boss believes his side has the quality to change the narrative.

“There is always a day in your life that can change history, so we still have our confidence and hope that we can do it,” he added.

Kotoko enter the new season on the back of a strong pre-season, having beaten rivals Hearts of Oak to win the President’s Cup and edging Kaizer Chiefs in the Toyota Cup at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in South Africa.

The 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season will kick off with jaw dropping fixtures from Friday, September 12 to Sunday, September 14:
