Black Stars Squad for Japan and South Korea friendlies to be announced this week

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) will unveil the Black Stars squad for the upcoming international friendlies against Japan and South Korea by the end of this week, according to Communications Director Henry Asante Twum.

The matches, scheduled for November 14 and 18, form part of Ghana’s preparatory roadmap to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where the Black Stars will be making their fifth appearance.

“Tentatively, we are looking at the end of this week or the weekend to confirm who will be in the squad,” Asante Twum told Joy Sports.

Travel and Logistics

  • Advanced team departs Accra: Friday, November 7
  • Technical staff follow: Over the weekend
  • Local players: Possible Sunday departure, depending on selection
  • Foreign-based players: Expected to arrive after club matches on Tuesday

Squad Evaluation Ahead of World Cup

Head coach Otto Addo is expected to use the friendlies to:

  • Assess core squad cohesion
  • Evaluate potential new additions
  • Test tactical setups against Asian opposition

The Kirin Cup, as will be headlining the Asian Tour will be having the Black Stars face off against Japan on November 14 in Japan, then further on to face South Korea on November 18 in Seoul.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup draw takes place on December 5 in Washington, where Ghana will discover its group-stage opponents.
