EPA team involved in accident near Obuasi; two journalists injured

An operation by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to clamp down on illegal mining in the Ashanti Region ended in chaos after a group of miners attacked officials and accompanying journalists, leading to a serious road accident during their retreat.
The team had been on an enforcement exercise targeting illegal mining sites around Obuasi when they were reportedly confronted by angry miners at Dadwene, a nearby community. The confrontation forced the EPA officers and journalists to withdraw from the area for safety.
Tragedy struck on their way back through Afari, where one of the convoy vehicles crashed, injuring several people. Two journalists were said to be in critical condition, while others sustained various degrees of injury.
Among those involved in the accident was Ibrahim Abubakar, Ashanti Regional Correspondent for Media General, who escaped with minor injuries. A reporter from Adom News was also part of the team caught up in the incident.
